The Maxx Forms AMC

The Maxx is embarking on yet another mission to aid local musicians, and uplift the community in Atlanta, GA. AMC, which is an acronym for American Musicians Collective, is a newly formed organization offering free membership and training to registered musicians in exchange for their efforts in marketing, advertising and promoting events. Members are given the ability to perform and most importantly, earn a living wage.

“The local live entertainment scene is suffering due to a lack of paid performance opportunities,” says AMC’s CEO Rod Whittaker, a full-time musician for over 30 years. “Currently the only options are jam sessions, which offer no pay, and clubs which offer very little pay. AMC’s objective is to rent its own facilities, produce, and promote shows; thereby developing a new platform for musicians to perform.”

AMC plans to produce signature events that utilize the vast talents of AMC members. Their premier show is “Three Whitneys”, a celebration of Whitney Houston’s legacy with three vocalists representing three decades of Houston’s illustrious career. For the baby boomers and those at heart, “Doo Wop, Doo Wop, Doo Wop ” is another themed event that provides a musical revue of the 50’s and 60’s. The nostalgic Oldies show features music from the era’s most iconic artists, including The Drifters and Frankie Lymon’s Teenagers.

AMC’s eclectic music endeavors intends to empower the lives of not only musicians, but Atlanta residents as well.

“Although top quality entertainment is the primary service we provide for the community, we realize there are other issues that plague our community” says Whittaker. “We are a community driven organization, so we try to help any way we possibly can.”

That help includes an annual summer benefit concert that benefits the Atlanta food bank, and partnering on campaigns with Musical Youth Of America, a non-profit whose mission is to provide music education for inner city elementary and middle school kids. Along with student supply drives, scholarships, and free concerts for senior citizens, AMC plans to develop a network of musicians who serve the Atlanta community.
